At first glance, a good result seems to be in the hands of the practitioner. And yes, it is indeed very important that you choose a suitable practitioner. But you can also do a number of things yourself to achieve the best result. Below you will find a number of tips that you can follow if you have had an upper eyelid surgery.

TIP 1: COOLING, COOLING, COOLING!

Start cooling immediately after your surgery. This will make the swelling less intense. You can also reduce the risk of bruising by means of cooling. You will find that the cooling helps to reduce the pressure of the swelling and eases any after pain you may have.

We recommend cooling for 15 minutes every hour after surgery. Make sure the cold packs are snug against your eyes.

TIP 2: PUT YOUR COLDPACKS IN THE FRIDGE AND NOT IN THE FREEZER!

Many people put cold packs in the freezer. Do not do this! Instead, it is better to put the cold packs in the refrigerator. This ensures that the gel in the cold pack remains somewhat liquid. This makes it easier to take the shape of your eyes and it will feel more comfortable on the eyes.

Do not forget to use a cloth or gauze between the cold pack and the skin! Never place the cold pack directly on the skin. This can freeze the skin and cause burns.

TIP 3: TAKE ENOUGH REST!

The upper eyelid surgery is a relatively minor procedure. But don’t underestimate the impact of the operation. It is important to take recovery seriously and to take it very easy in the days following your surgery. Your body needs energy to heal the wound. So let yourself be taken care of in the days after your operation!

TIP 4: EAT HEALTHY!

This may sound logical. And hopefully you always eat healthy and varied. But your body needs vitamins and minerals to heal the wound nicely. So eat enough fruit and vegetables, drink enough water and avoid alcohol. You should absolutely not smoke before and after your operation. Smoking causes poor wound healing!

TIP 5: USE A SCAR CREAM!

You can promote the fading of the scar by regularly applying a scar cream to the scar and the skin around it. As soon as the wound is completely closed and the scabs are off, you can start applying. Lubricate it regularly. For example, every morning and evening, so that the skin is hydrated enough to recover nicely.

TIP 6: SLEEP WITH YOUR HEAD HIGH

By sleeping with your head slightly elevated, you reduce the pressure on the eyes. Especially in the first days after your operation, this can provide relief from pain and reduce swelling.

These were the 6 tips to promote your recovery after surgery. Of course, every body is different and everyone recovers in their own way.
