Labia surgery Zwanetta

Zwanette Fox underwent a labia correction at Faceland two years ago. This procedure is performed daily in our clinic. When we announced Zwanetta’s surgery, we were overwhelmed with questions. In this blog, we will address all the questions you may have!

WHY DO YOU WANT A LABIA SURGERY?

I have wanted a labia correction for quite some time because my labia cause discomfort, which has been bothering me for a long time. The issue becomes particularly problematic during sports. I dance a lot, and it sometimes becomes a problem even when I am cycling. Even underwear does not always fit well, which adds to the discomfort. I would really like to resolve these issues, and I hope that the surgery will provide relief.

For me, the surgery is purely for medical reasons. I do not consider the appearance unattractive, but if the procedure also imporoves the cosmetic aspect, then that would be a welcome bonus. However, that is not my primary motivation for undergoing the surgery.

WHAT EXACTLY DOES A LABIA CORRECTION ENTAIL?

Labia surgery involves removing excess tissue from the inner labia to improve comfort and appearance. Many women experience their inner labia as being larger or longer than the outer labia, which can cause discomfort or self-consciousness. If you are affected by this, a labia correction could be an ideal solution.

WHEN DID YOU REALIZE THAT LABIA SURGERY WAS THE RIGHT SOLUTION FOR YOU?

I first started noticing it around age 14, when my inner labia began to grown longer than my outer labia, likely due to hormonal changes. At that age, I biked to school and especially felt the discomfort while cycling.

I wanted to have the correction done back then, as it bothered me a lot, but I was not yet fully grown. Now that I am, I know I still want to address these concerns. To confirm that labia correction would indeed resolve my discomfort, I had a consultation well before the surgery. During this meeting, I received plenty of information, and I left feeling confident about both the procedure and the practitioner. At the time, however, I was still too nervous to go through with it.

WHY DID YOU HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT THE LABIA SURGERY?

I had already had a consultation a year before my operation. I didn’t have surgery then because I was very anxious. The idea of being awake during the procedure felt intimidating, and my fear of needles made me hesitate, which is why I chose to wait.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO UNDERGO LABIA SURGERY?

After my consultation, the media reported that I was considering labia surgery. This led to countless messages from girls experiencing the same issue. Many shared that they also wanted the surgery but felt ashamed or did not have the courage to pursue it.

This support gave me the push to go through with it. I want to help other women see that there is no need for shame and that they should do what feels right, especially when it concerns their own bodies or specific complaints. I am simply doing what makes me happy.

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE SURGERY?

I was quite afraid of the operation. When I arrived at the clinic, the practitioner immediately reassured me. After entering the treatment room, I had to undress and lay down on the operating table while the practitioner prepared the surgical area. Everything except for the area of the operation was covered.

Then came what I feared most: the anesthetic injections. An hour before the surgery, I applied a generous amount of Emla cream (numbing cream) to my labia to lessen the discomfort of the injections. Fortunately, I was very well anesthetized and felt no pain—just some movement, but it was not painful at all.

The entire surgery went very well for me. I would do it again in a heartbeat, as I felt very little of it. Immediately after the operation, I did not feel anything, which was a relief. I also checked afterward to see the results, but it was so swollen from the procedure that I could not discern how much skin had been removed.

HOW DID YOU RECOVER FROM THE LABIA SURGERY?

Immediately after the surgery, I felt no pain because I was still numb. However, once I returned home and the anaesthesia wore off, I experienced significant pain, which felt like a burning sensation—especially after urinating, not during it. The pain was quite intense, and unfortunately, there was little I could do other than rest and apply cold compresses.

The first day was particularly difficult, but the pain gradually improved day by day, along with the swelling. After two weeks, my stitches began to dissolve, which took quite a while, possibly because my body does not break them down quickly. Once I could wear underwear again, my recovery progressed rapidly from that point.

HOW LONG AFTER YOUR LABIA SURGERY WERE YOU ABLE TO WORK AND EXERCISE AGAIN?

I believe recovery is very personal. I was able to dance again after three weeks, but it is essential to listen to your body and assess when your pain has subsided before gradually resuming activities. For a while, I was unable to sit normally or cross my legs comfortably as well.

When it comes to exercise, especially strength training and weightlifting, it is important to wait at least six weeks, as you do not want to put too much pressure on the healing area. The longer you allow yourself to rest, the better the overall results will be!

ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH THE RESULTS OF THE LABIA SURGERY?

At first, I wondered if I would be satisfied with the results because the area remained swollen for a long time, and the stitches felt hard for quite a while. However, as the swelling decreased and my labia began to regain their natural shape, I started to like it more and more. I am very satisfied with the results, and the complaints I had before the surgery have been resolved.
