How does a sunken cheek treatment work?

Before the filler treatment, there is an opportunity to discuss your wishes and concerns to make the experience as pleasant as possible. The treating physician will then advise you on the amount and type of fillers to be used (hyaluronic acid/calcium-based). Afterward, we will fill the cheeks with fillers.

The most effective filler for the cheeks is a calcium-based filler (Radiesse). This filler stimulates the body’s natural collagen production. You will enjoy fuller cheeks for about 9 months to a year, allowing you to enjoy a youthful and fresh appearance for longer.

Schedule a non-binding free consultation to discuss your desires and expectations with the practitioner. Based on this, the practitioner will provide you with suitable advice. During the consultation, the practitioner will examine your face and take some photos so that you can compare the results after the treatment. This way, you can see if your wishes have been fulfilled.

First, the practitioner will examine your cheeks where the fillers will be applied, and if necessary, mark the area. You can choose local anesthesia, but this is not mandatory. Then, the practitioner will apply fillers to the cheeks. The treatment takes about 20 minutes.

You should not exercise for up to 24 hours after the treatment, and avoid visiting saunas or sunbeds for 2 weeks. Exposure to UV radiation can make the skin more sensitive and affect the results.

Result of sunken cheeks

You will have a beautiful and natural result with your cheeks. Your cheeks are full again, and you no longer have sunken cheeks. This result is optimal after 2 weeks. When using a hyaluronic acid filler, the effect lasts on average between 6 and 9 months. After this, you will come back for a cheek refill. The effect of Radiesse will last for 9 months to a year.

You will have fuller cheeks, giving you a youthful and fresh appearance. If you are not satisfied, you can come back to your practitioner for a follow-up appointment from 2 to 4 weeks after the treatment. Optionally, you can complete your look with cheekbone fillers to give your face more contour. If you have high cheekbones, sunken cheeks are also less noticeable. Consult and get advice from your practitioner.

Aftercare for cheek fillers

Within 48 hours after the treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area. You can move your face, though. After the treatment, you may experience bruising or slight swelling. In that case, cool the area well, for example with a cool pack. The swelling will subside after a few days.

Bruises may be camouflaged with makeup after a few hours, once the injection holes are closed. Also, do not exercise for the first 24 hours after the treatment, and avoid saunas or sunbeds for 2 weeks. Exposure to UV radiation can make the skin more sensitive and affect the results.
