What are sunken temples?

Sunken or hollow temples can give you a tired appearance. The cause of sunken temples is gravity and volume loss in your face. Filling the temples with fillers can be done using either a hyaluronic acid filler or a collagen-stimulating filler. Have you ever had a facelift and/or other surgery around this area? Then, unfortunately, filling your sunken temples with fillers is not possible. This increases the risk of complications. Apart from that, you can proceed with the treatment as usual.

How does the treatment of sunken temples work?

For this treatment, either a hyaluronic acid or Radiesse filler can be used. The amount of filler used depends on the brand. For Radiesse, 1.5 ml is used, while for Belotero and Juvéderm, it’s 1 ml. The right filler for sunken temples will be determined by the practitioner based on your preferences and facial structure.

The practitioner determines where the injections will be placed. Then, the fillers are applied to the temples. A cannula may be used to minimize the risk of bruising. This is a hollow, blunt needle that gradually injects the filler.

The result of a sunken temples treatment

The natural result of the treatment is optimal after just 2 weeks. Your sunken temples are filled, giving you a fresher and less tired appearance. If you are not satisfied with the result, you can come back to your practitioner for a follow-up appointment 2 to 4 weeks after the treatment.

The effect of the treatment will last 6 to 9 months with a hyaluronic acid filler, and 9 to 12 months with the Radiesse filler. After this, you will return for a repeat treatment. Have wrinkles appeared on your forehead due to aging? A natural muscle relaxant for wrinkles is the solution to soften forehead wrinkles.

Aftercare for Sunken Temples

In the first 48 hours after the treatment, do not massage or rub the treated area unless the doctor specifically recommends it. After the treatment, you may experience bruising or swelling, so it is recommended to cool the area.

The swelling will greatly diminish after a few days. Bruises can be camouflaged with makeup several hours after the treatment, once the injection sites are closed. Also, do not exercise for 24 hours after the treatment and do not visit the sauna or sunbed for two weeks after the treatment. Exposure to UV radiation can make the treated skin more sensitive, which may affect the result.

Frequently Asked Questions about Sunken Temples

As we age, our faces lose volume. This, combined with gravity and decreased skin elasticity, can cause sunken temples. Your face may then appear very narrow, giving you an aged look. With fillers, you can restore the volume.
